MY CHOSEN IMAGE

I approached this assessment with an idea of what I wanted to focus on. I chose these objects because I want to see an improvement in my ability to paint accurately in relation to cylindrical objects. Also this image includes my favorite visual element of distortion through liquids. I think it also loosely relates to my previous still-lifes.
Composition – Cropped view of the window / use the frame to show space (larger window than in view)
Lightsource – Behind my subjects – Shadows go towards the viewer
Rule of thirds – If i was to divide the image into 3, my objects are centred on each line

Final Sketch

I start by drawing with paint, I have chosen a pale grey to create the lines. I also painted the background in the same tonal values.
Next I painted the frame of the window. I assessed the tonal values of the image and used titanium white to lighten and ultramarine to darken my colours. As you can see I loosely painted the tonal values.
I created the main colour of the plant pot and painted the outline of the pot, then filled in the colour. Then I focused on the leaves. First I create the main leaf colour, painting the outline and filled out the leaves with greens allowing the leaves to start taking shape. I then used a lighter, wash blue to paint the distorted colour in the bottle.
I contiuned to focus on the reflective, distorted contents of the bottle.
Here I bagan to define the leaves using phthalo green for darker areaas. I also began to add the details in the bottle.
I painted the plant in the plant pot, using a pale green, I also began defining the plant pot, adding tonal values. I also continued to add leaf details
Here I began to add all the marks, tone and shadow around the frame and also defined the small plant in the plant pot.
I began to paint the window sill, added shadow, defining the lines surrounding my subjects
Close look at the plant pot, I was not happy with how it looked close up. Here I can see such a harsh change of colour. I want to go over all the colours, blending them in more and making the pot look more realistic.
Adding the final details
Here I reapproached the plant pot, making the tones less harsh
