Due to the current pandemic I had to take photos of my posed model and I chose to use image editing software to blur a part the background out as it was cluttered. I have given myself clear focus for my image.
My initial sketch is a focus of the linear values of my image, preparing me to create the painted piece.

A relaxed stretch – 16 x 12 inches (406×305 mm) canvas board

I use portrait pink to feel in the colour of my model’s main shape. I found painting my model’s main skin in a single tone is a really good way to create an accurate copy of the shape. I started by filling the space, then I defined the shape. I then used white and warm grey to define the pants shape and titanium white socks. I then stood back and took a good look at my painting and my photo and realise some areas could be better defined. I used warm grey to fill in the dark tones surrounding my model this allowed me to define the lines and also gave more definition to the painting as a whole. I used burnt amber with a touch of Mars black to paint the hair which is such a defining characteristic to my model giving such a loose painting/study some personality. Keeping to the linear aspect I wanted to add some tonal definition. I feel this actually adds to the linear aspect of my image gives hands and fingers some shape and allowed me to create a final piece.
