Getting to know your brushes

I think i approached this task quite haphazardly. I went in with a set pack of brushes and used separate paper and acrylic paint to use each brush.

I tested each brush by first only using the tips to create dots, short lines. Secondly, I coated the entire brush in paint and swooped with each brush, dabbed the colour into another black area with the page.

Thirdly, I tried the brushes with a watered down mix of paint. I believe this allowed me to really get to feel how I would be able to use the paint brushes.

While doing this task I did realise that I needed to I needed to provide more physical evidence to show my work. This is where I began to write into my physical log book and really take notes.

Painting a landscape from memory.

I really enjoyed having a painting task, this being my first one where I could actually explore using my acrylic paint and really start exploring the way my large brushes work.

I used two flat brushes to create a rocky mountain landscape with fields of grass. I used the tip and sides of the brush to create different marks and patterns.

Paint a piece of fruit

I painted a single banana on a white background which i created by using a plain sheet of white paper. I really enjoyed painting this banana, I have never studied a banana so close. My first thought was ‘this painting is going to be very boring because this banana is perfect.’ Upon closer observation, I could see all the little marks, bruises and the green tone graduating in the bright yellow skin.
