My strengths have never been in composition so I was very aware when preparing to paint. I was very careful when creating the preliminary drawings which was important to the initial background painting. I utilised the more transparent paints to improve the definition of the finer details. I felt my strong area was creating the clouds, I utilised blending and layering paint to help create a more realistic image that mimicked the photo. I think the image I created has a slight impressionists feel as I used a small & fine brush quite a lot over the final layers. My image has a fairly dark ambiance as it is a wet and c loudy scene but the brightness from the sunlight adds an almost enchanted feel and give a radiant glow to the final image. The blue of the sky and reflection add colour to the very grey saturated sky. The green, beige & yellow tones on the ground are used in a way that makes the ground look lustrous. Overall, I think my image creates an inspiring atmosphere scene and it allows someone to view the distance and wonder or stare into the clouds, inspiring imagination.

Feedback on assignment
Demonstration of technical and Visual Skills, Quality of Outcome, demonstration of Creativity
The assignment itself is working with a different confidence to the rest of the work and there is a sense that you are being playful with what paint might do and what you might communicate through it. The way that you have thought carefully about the view and have a connection to the space is evidenced through the approach you had to the painting. You have been thoughtful about the process and what you hope to represent.
Therefore, you have used observational skills but also extended ideas of the landscape beyond a straightforward representation. This means that there are subtleties to the colour, tone and the directional marks within the image. It seems that the organic nature of the landscape allowed you to be more playful in your approach as technically it is stronger than the other work where perspective, linear aspects, tonal shadow impacted
more on the way that the work developed. Compositionally you have allowed the sky to slightly dominate yet there is a balance between that and the land – a mirroring that is seen through your brush strokes. You use the brush marks differently from the rest of the tasks and there is a sensitivity to the way you apply the paint, this allows a sense of space movement and depth within the painting which can now evolve into the other work
going forward. You were excited about this painting and how it came to be and your annotation of the process shows this engagement.
